Adding more than one of the same topping

Adding more than one of the same topping

Customers and staff can add the same topping more than once — double pepperoni, triple cheese, extra jalapeños. This works on every ordering channel without you switching anything on. What you do control in Back Office is how many they're allowed to add.

What controls it

These settings live on the option group (e.g. "Toppings"), not on the individual topping:

SettingWhat it does
Max Per OptionCaps the total number of selections in the group. Each portion counts as one — so with a max of 3, a customer can pick three different toppings, or the same topping three times, but not both. Leave blank for no limit.
Min Per OptionThe minimum the customer must choose before they can continue.
Single Select (Radio)When on, the group becomes a one-of-these choice (like Base or Crust) and quantities are turned off. Leave it off if you want customers to add multiples.
RequiredForces the customer to make a choice in this group before adding to the basket.
Free TypeGives a free allowance in the group. Each portion counts as one towards a Quantity allowance — see Setting up free toppings.

Note: If you want customers to be able to add multiples, make sure Single Select (Radio) is off and Max Per Option is either blank or set to a number higher than 1.

How to set the limit

  1. Go to Management > Menu > Menu Setup.
  2. In the Product Options panel on the right, find your option group (e.g. Toppings).
  3. Click the menu next to the group and choose Edit.
  4. Set Max Per Option to the highest total number of toppings you want to allow — or leave it blank for no limit.
  5. Check that Single Select (Radio) is switched off.
  6. Click Save.

Note: If your stores share a Company Menu, edit the option group at Company level with no store selected. If your store manages its own menu, select the store first. See Company or store menus.

The Show For setting on the same panel controls where the group appears at all — POS & Online, POS only, or online only. If a topping group isn't showing on one channel, check this first.

How it works on each ordering channel

The setup above is shared. Only the on-screen controls differ.

Online ordering and the mobile app

  1. The customer opens the product and scrolls to the topping group.
  2. Tapping + on a topping row selects it and turns the row into a − 1 + stepper.
  3. Tapping + again makes it 2, then 3, and so on.

The group heading shows the rule and the running count — for example Select up to 3 (3 selected). Once the cap is reached, the remaining toppings grey out until the customer removes a portion.

Kiosk

The kiosk uses the same option groups and the same limits as online ordering.

POS

  1. Add the product to the order and open the topping group.
  2. Tap the topping you want more of.
  3. Use the + and buttons to change the quantity of that topping.

The + button applies to the topping you last tapped. It stops at Max Per Option, counting the total across the whole group — so if the cap is 3 and the customer already has two other toppings, you can only add one more portion.

MyOrderBox POS

After changing the option group in Back Office, sync the terminal so it picks up the new menu. Then select the topping and use + or to set the quantity.

How multiples appear downstream

  • Kitchen Display: the topping line is prefixed with the count, e.g. + x2 Pepperoni. A topping the customer removed shows struck through.
  • Receipts and kitchen tickets: the topping shows with its quantity, and the price is the topping price multiplied by the number of portions.

Troubleshooting

  • The + button does nothing. The group has hit its Max Per Option limit. Remember the limit counts every portion across the group, not per topping.
  • Toppings show as a single-choice list with no + buttons. Single Select (Radio) is switched on for that group. Turn it off.
  • The change hasn't appeared on the POS. Sync the terminal to pull the updated menu.
  • The topping group is missing on one channel. Check Show For on the option group, and check the Order Types toggles (Eat In / Collection / Delivery) at the bottom of the same panel.
  • A topping is missing entirely. See Why is an option value (i.e. topping) not showing on my website?
