Campaign links that open a deal and apply the code for your customer

Last verified: 2026-07-23

When you run a campaign from Setup > Marketing that promotes a deal, the SMS or push notification contains a short link. When a customer taps it, your ordering website now does the work for them:

  1. The customer lands on your website and chooses how they want to order (delivery, pickup or table) as usual.
  2. As soon as they reach the menu, the promoted deal opens automatically so they can add it in one tap.
  3. If the campaign included a promo code, the customer never has to type it. The website remembers the code and applies it automatically as soon as their basket qualifies — for deal-linked codes, that's the moment the promoted deal is added.

While the code is waiting to apply, the basket shows a small notice: "Code ABC123 will be applied automatically when your order qualifies." Once applied, the discount appears in the order summary like any other promo code.

Why the deal might not open

The website only opens the deal if it's actually available to the customer at that moment. The customer just sees the normal menu (no error) when:

  • the deal is restricted to certain days and today isn't one of them — for example a Tuesday-only offer clicked on Wednesday
  • the deal has been disabled or deleted since the campaign was sent
  • the deal isn't available for the order type the customer picked (for example a delivery-only deal on a pickup order)

Even when the deal doesn't open, the promo code from the link is still remembered and will apply if the customer builds a qualifying basket.

How long the code is remembered

  • The code is held for 24 hours after the customer taps the link.
  • It's cleared as soon as it applies successfully, and always cleared when the customer completes an order — a code from an old campaign can never silently attach to a later, unrelated order.
  • If the customer taps a newer campaign link, the newer deal and code replace the older ones.

Things to know

  • The customer can still type a different promo code themselves. A code they enter manually always takes priority — the campaign code will not overwrite it.
  • The held code follows the customer through sign-in, so it survives the phone-number verification step during their first order.
  • Campaign links work the same on the website whether the campaign was sent by SMS or push notification.
