Applying Discounts and Coupons on the POS

Last verified: 2026-06-18

Overview

The POS has a single Discounts screen that lets you apply a discount three ways and clearly shows what's already on the order. Open it from the percent (%) button on the payment keypad.

You'll see, top to bottom:

  1. Applied — anything already discounting the order, each with a Remove button.
  2. Quick discounts — your saved discount templates as one-tap buttons.
  3. Coupon code — for honouring the same coupons customers use online.
  4. Manual discount — type an ad-hoc amount or percentage.

Quick discounts (templates)

Quick discounts are the named discounts you set up in Back Office > Setup > In-Store > Discounts (for example "Staff Meal — 50% off"). They appear here automatically, in the order you arranged them.

  1. On the payment screen, tap the % button.
  2. Under Quick discounts, tap the discount you want.
  3. It's applied immediately and appears under Applied.

Note: A template with a lock icon requires a manager PIN. Tapping it prompts for the PIN before it applies. Templates without the lock apply straight away.

Note: If a quick discount you configured isn't showing, check it is set to active in Back Office. Fixed-price discounts aren't available as in-store quick discounts yet.

Coupon codes

You can apply the same coupon codes customers use when ordering online.

  1. Tap the % button on the payment screen.
  2. Under Coupon code, type the code and tap Apply.
  3. The coupon and its saving appear under Applied.

If the code is wrong, expired, or doesn't apply to the items in the order, you'll see a message saying it isn't valid — nothing is added to the order.

Manual discount

For one-off discounts that aren't saved as a template:

  1. Tap the % button, then Manual discount.
  2. Enter the manager PIN if prompted.
  3. Choose Amount or Percent, type the value on the keypad, add a reason in Why? if you like, and tap Ok.

Removing a discount or coupon

  1. Open the Discounts screen (the % button).
  2. Under Applied, tap Remove next to the discount or coupon you want to clear.

The order total updates straight away.

Why a discount asks for a manager PIN

Discounts can reduce takings, so some need manager approval:

  • Manual discounts always ask for a manager PIN.
  • Quick discounts ask for a PIN only when the template is marked PIN required in Back Office (shown with a lock icon).
  • Coupons don't require a manager PIN.

If you're signed in as a manager, you won't be prompted.
