Changing item quantities

Last verified: 2026-09-07

Change an item's quantity

  1. Open the order and use + or beside the item.
  2. Wait for the displayed quantity and total to update before continuing.
  3. Check the order before taking payment or sending it to the kitchen.

You can keep the item controls open to increase and then decrease the quantity. The controls use the latest saved quantity, and will not reduce it below one.

If a change fails

An error can mean the change has not saved. Check the order's current quantities before trying again. A failed quantity change should leave any other open dialog in place.

If you leave the order screen immediately after tapping, a change that has not yet been sent is cancelled. A request already sent can still finish. Reopen the order and check its current quantities before making further changes.

Removing an item

While building a new unpaid order on the current order screen, you can remove an item before sending the order to the kitchen without asking a manager to approve it.

Orders reopened from elsewhere, orders already sent to the kitchen, and paid orders still require manager approval for item removal. If the POS cannot confirm that an order is your new unsent draft, it also asks for approval. A signed-in manager can approve through their existing access.

The item's controls close when removal succeeds. If approval is cancelled or removal fails, they stay open so you can review the order or try again. Repeated taps on the same item's delete button wait for the existing attempt; deletions of different items are handled in order.

Leaving the order cancels removals that have not yet been sent. A removal already sent can still finish, so check the order when reopening it. Its result will not close a different dialog or replace another order you have started.

Quantity changes and item removals wait for each other to finish. A delayed quantity update will not bring back a removed item or reopen an order you have left. If you remove an item before its pending quantity change is sent, that unnecessary quantity change is dropped.

Normal product additions also wait for quantity changes and item removals to finish, so a delayed response cannot hide a product you just added. Wait for the product and total to appear before continuing. Clearing the order cancels an addition that has not yet been sent; an addition already sent may still save, so check the order before adding it again.

Editing item options

Saving changes to an item's options waits for earlier quantity changes, normal product additions, and removals. Those changes also wait until the edited item has finished being replaced. Repeated taps on Save while that item is being saved do not start another replacement.

Wait for the updated item and total before continuing. Replacing an item uses several requests; if saving fails or you leave partway through, reopen the order and check its items before trying again. Some of the replacement may already have saved.
