Amended Orders on the Kitchen Display

User story

A customer changes their mind after their order has already gone to the kitchen — they add an extra item, or cancel one. Staff edit the order on the POS. How does the kitchen find out?

What happens automatically

When an order that is already in the kitchen is edited on the POS, the Kitchen Display updates within a few seconds — no refresh needed. The display also plays a distinct alert sound (different from the new-order chime) so the change is not missed during a rush.

How an amended order looks

  1. AMENDED banner — the order card shows a bright banner across the top of its header. If the order has been edited more than once, the banner also shows how many times (for example ×2).
  2. Added items — any item added after the order went to the kitchen is highlighted with a + NEW tag and a tinted background. It starts in the normal "to prepare" state, even if the rest of the order is already done, so the kitchen knows exactly what still needs making.
  3. Removed items — an item taken off the order is not silently deleted. It stays on the card crossed out with a REMOVED tag, so the kitchen knows to stop preparing it.

Note: Once an added item is bumped to prepared, its + NEW highlight changes to the normal green "done" style.

Orders that were already bumped

If an order is edited after the kitchen has already bumped it off the display, it comes back automatically — with the AMENDED banner, any new items highlighted, and any removed items crossed out. Prepare the new items as normal, then bump the order again when done.

Clearing the banner

Bump the order as you normally would (tap to advance, or long-press to mark the whole order prepared). Bumping clears the card from the display, including the AMENDED banner and the item markers. If you bump by mistake, use UNDO on the toast that appears — the amended order returns to the screen.

Station and Expo displays

Amended orders behave the same way on station displays and Expo displays. On station displays, an added item only appears on the station that prepares that kind of item — the same routing as any other item.
