Offering Half & Half pizzas to your customers

Last verified: 2026-04-23

What Half & Half does

Half & Half lets a customer order a pizza where each half is a different flavour — for example, half Margherita and half Pepperoni. The two halves share one pizza base, so they must be the same size. On your kitchen ticket, the order is printed as a single item with both halves clearly labelled.

Half & Half is turned on per menu category. Once you enable it on your pizza category, a Half & Half deal is created automatically — you don't need to build anything manually.

Turn on Half & Half for a category

  1. Go to Setup > Menu.
  2. Open the category your pizzas live in (e.g. "Pizzas").
  3. Enable Split Products.
  4. (Optional) Set a Split Products Charge — a surcharge added to any Half & Half order.
  5. Save.

As soon as you save, a new deal titled "Half & Half " appears in Setup > Marketing > Deals. It's set to auto-apply so customers see it in the ordering flow.

Note: Turning Split Products off deactivates the Half & Half deal but does not delete it. If you turn Split Products on again later, the same deal is re-enabled — any edits you made (image, name) are preserved.

How it works for the customer

When a customer orders from a Split Products category, the app / website / kiosk / POS prompts them to build a Half & Half:

  1. They pick the size (e.g. 12" or 14").
  2. They pick the flavour for the first half.
  3. They pick the flavour for the second half.
  4. Toppings can be added to a specific half, or to both halves.

Both halves must be the same size — the apps block mismatched picks.

Pricing

The price of a Half & Half is calculated as:

(Price of half A + Price of half B) ÷ 2 + Split Products Charge

Toppings priced per half add in full. Toppings applied to both halves are charged once.

Example:

  • Margherita 12" is £9
  • Pepperoni 12" is £11
  • Split Products Charge is £1
  • Half Margherita / Half Pepperoni 12" = (9 + 11) ÷ 2 + 1 = £11

Excluding specific products or sizes

Some items in a split category should never be offered as a half — a whole-only speciality, for instance. To exclude:

  • Open the product and tick Ignore Split — the product won't appear in the Half & Half picker.
  • On an individual size, tick Ignore Split on the Product Attribute — the size won't appear as a Half & Half option.

Editing the auto-created deal

The auto-created deal is a normal deal — you can open it in Setup > Marketing > Deals and change its name, image, or menu position. What you can't change is the pricing model or the number of halves — Half & Half always uses averaging across exactly two halves.

Troubleshooting

The Half & Half prompt doesn't show up on my ordering app. Check that:

  • The category has Split Products enabled and has been saved.
  • The deal "Half & Half " is Active in Setup > Marketing > Deals.
  • Your mobile / web / POS clients are on a current build — older builds that predate Half & Half won't show the prompt.

Customers are being blocked with "Both halves must share the same size". This is working as designed — a half/half pizza is one physical base, so both flavours must use the same size (e.g. both 12"). If two customers want different sizes, they need to order two separate pizzas.

I don't see a Split Products Charge option on my category. Make sure Split Products is toggled on — the Split Products Charge field only appears once splitting is enabled.
