What the message means
Every till in your store works on the same orders. If one till is still building an order while another till pays it, sends it, voids it or otherwise moves it on, the first till is now editing an order that has already been finished elsewhere.
When that happens and you add an item, change a quantity, edit an item or remove one, the POS shows:
This order was changed on another till, so your last change was not saved.
The change you just made was not added to the order. The POS then checks the order's real status and does one of two things.
The order is still open
If the order can still be edited (for example another till only sent it to the kitchen), the POS reloads it and shows the current items:
It has been reloaded, please try again.
- Check the items now shown on the order screen.
- Make your change again.
The order has already been paid or closed
If another till has already paid, completed or voided the order, it can no longer be edited from your till. The POS closes it on your screen and tells you what happened, for example:
Order #42 is already paid on another till and can no longer be edited here. It has been closed on this screen.
The order itself is safe. Find it in the Order Hub if you need to check it, refund it or reprint it. To serve the customer's extra item, start a new order.
The POS could not reload the order
If the till could not reach the server to check the order, the message says so and includes the reason (for example a connection error). The order stays on screen so you can try again once the connection is back.
Note: Before this update, a till in this situation showed a "Bad state" error, and the item appeared to do nothing no matter how many times you tapped it. If you still see that error, update the POS app.
Avoiding it
Finish an order on the till that started it where possible. If a second till needs to take over an order, close it on the first till (tap New order or clear the order) before working on it elsewhere.
