Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link at checkout

Last verified: 2026-09-05

One-tap payment buttons at checkout

Your ordering website now shows Apple Pay, Google Pay and Link buttons at the top of the payment step, above the card form. A customer whose device already has a card set up can pay in one tap instead of typing a 16-digit card number, expiry date and security code.

The money reaches you exactly as it does for a typed card payment — same payout, same order in your POS and kitchen display, same receipt. Only the way the customer hands over their card details changes.

You don't need to do anything to switch it on

There is no setting to enable. The buttons appear automatically for customers whose device and browser support them.

Note: Apple Pay and Google Pay are not extra payment methods you have to sign up for. They are a faster way for a customer to give you the same card they would otherwise have typed in.

Why a customer might not see the buttons

The buttons are shown by the customer's own device, so what appears varies from person to person. This is normal, and the card form is always available underneath. Common reasons a customer sees no wallet button:

  • They have no card saved. Apple Pay only shows if the customer has a card in their Apple Wallet; Google Pay only shows if they have one saved to their Google account.
  • They're using the wrong browser. On an iPhone or iPad, Apple Pay only appears in Safari. It will not appear inside the browser built into another app — for example, tapping your link from Instagram, Facebook or the Google app opens a mini-browser where Apple Pay cannot run.
  • They're on a device that doesn't support it. A Windows PC, for example, may show Google Pay and Link but not Apple Pay.
  • Your website is on your own domain and it isn't verified yet. See the next section.

If a customer reports that a button is missing, ask them to open your website in Safari (iPhone/iPad) or Chrome (Android) directly, rather than through a link inside another app.

If your website runs on your own domain

Apple requires every website domain that shows an Apple Pay button to be verified first. If you use a myfoodfast.co.uk address, this is already handled for you.

If your ordering website runs on your own domain — for example yourshop.co.uk — the domain needs to be verified before the Apple Pay button will appear on it. Google Pay and Link are not affected and will still show.

Contact support with your domain name and we'll complete the verification. It takes a few minutes and needs no change on your side.

See Run your website on your own domain for how custom domains are set up.

What the customer sees

  1. They add items to the basket and go to the checkout page as usual.
  2. At the payment step, any available wallet buttons appear first, followed by Or pay by card and the normal card form.
  3. Tapping a wallet button opens their device's own payment sheet, where they confirm with Face ID, a fingerprint or a passcode.
  4. The order is placed and they land on the tracking page, exactly as with a card payment.

If a wallet payment is declined or the customer cancels the payment sheet, they stay on the checkout page and can pay by card instead. Nothing is charged twice.

Refunds and reporting

Wallet payments appear in Back Office and on your Stripe payouts as ordinary card payments. Refund them the same way you refund any card order.
