Turn the printer beep on or off

Last verified: 2026-10-22

Overview

When the POS prints a receipt, the printer beeps three times so staff in the kitchen and at the counter know a new order has come in. The beep is on for every receipt printer by default, and you can turn it off for any printer.

The beep only sounds on printers that have a buzzer, such as Epson receipt printers fitted with a buzzer. Printers without a buzzer print as normal and stay silent. Label printers and the built-in printer on a Sunmi terminal never beep.

Turn the beep on or off

  1. On the POS, go to Settings > Printers.
  2. Find the printer card for the printer you want to change, for example Customer Printer or one of your kitchen printers.
  3. Use the Beep when printing switch on that card:
    • On: the printer beeps after every receipt.
    • Off: the printer prints without beeping.
  4. Tap Test print to check it. With the switch on, the test page ends with three beeps.

The setting is saved on that till for that printer. If the same printer is set up on more than one till, change the switch on each till.

Note: The switch only shows once a printer is chosen on the card.

If the printer still doesn't beep

  • Check the switch is on for that printer in Settings > Printers.
  • Check the printer has a buzzer. Many Epson printers have it as an add-on that plugs into the back of the printer.
  • Run a Test print. If the page prints but there is no beep, the printer's buzzer may be switched off in the printer's own settings. Contact support and we'll help you check it.
