Troubleshooting Receipt Printers on MyFoodFast POS (Android)

MyFoodFast POS talks directly to your receipt printer — no extra desktop drivers or admin passwords are involved. If printing stops, work through the checks below in order.

1 · Run a Quick Test in POS

  1. In the left sidebar, tap Printers (under Peripherals).
  2. Wait until each printer card finishes Loading… and shows the IP‑address drop‑down.
  3. Press the green Test Print button on the card you want to check.

If the test receipt prints correctly → that printer is ready.

If nothing prints → continue to Step 2.

2 · Check Power, Paper & Cables

What to checkDetails
PowerGreen LED is lit. Cable firmly seated in both printer & socket.
PaperCorrect 80 mm thermal roll, glossy side facing out.
Data linkEthernet/Wi‑Fi: cable tight; make sure the tablet is on the same network. USB‑OTG and Bluetooth printers are not supported.

If all looks good and the printer still doesn't respond, move to Step 3.

3 · Print the Printer's Self‑Test

  1. Switch the printer off.
  2. Hold FEED and turn it on.
  3. Release FEED when printing starts.

The receipt shows model, firmware, and — if network‑enabled — the current IP address.

Action: Photograph the top part of this self‑test (where the IP address appears) and keep it handy. You'll need it in Step 5.

4 · Verify the Connection Type

A. Network (Ethernet / Wi‑Fi)

  • Confirm the tablet's Wi‑Fi IP is in the same subnet as the printer (e.g. both start 192.168.1.x).
  • From the tablet, install any free Ping app and ping the printer's IP.
  • ping 192.168.x.x
  • Four successful replies mean the network path is clear.

B. Bluetooth

Bluetooth printers are not supported in MyFoodFast POS.

C. USB‑OTG (direct cable)

USB‑OTG printer connections are not supported in MyFoodFast POS.

If the link looks healthy but printing still fails, proceed.

5 · Assign the Printer's IP in POS

All printers (names, roles, copy counts) are created in the MyFoodFast Back Office. On the Android POS tablet you simply link each one to its physical printer by selecting the correct IP address.

  1. Open ☰ Menu › Settings › Printers.
  2. Each printer card will show a drop‑down once the app finishes scanning the network.
  3. Pick the IP address that matches the self‑test receipt (e.g. 192.168.1.50).
  4. Tap Test Print — the printer should fire a receipt.
  5. Repeat for any kitchen, dispatch, or label printers.

Tip: A previously saved printer will stay selected even if auto-discovery doesn't find it this session — it appears in the dropdown marked (saved). You only need to re-pick an IP when the printer itself has moved to a new address.

6 · Dropdown Empty? Enter the IP Manually

Some networks block the auto-discovery scan (VLAN isolation, access‑point client isolation, or ICMP blocking on business routers). In that case the dropdown can stay empty even when the printer is online and on the correct subnet.

You don't need IT help — you can type the printer's IP in directly:

  1. On the affected printer card, tap the small Enter IP manually link underneath the dropdown.
  2. In the dialog, type the IP address from the self‑test receipt (Step 3), e.g. 192.168.1.50.
  3. Tap Test & Save.

If the printer is reachable, POS saves it and closes the dialog automatically. If it isn't, you'll see:

Could not reach 192.168.1.50 on port 9100. Check the printer is on and on the same network.

Double‑check the IP on the self‑test, confirm the tablet is on the same Wi‑Fi, and try again.
